Delicious, crispy and very moreish!
This is an easy and impressive dish, great as either a starter or side accompanying other dishes. This is a great alternative (and less greasy) to takeaway sesame prawn toasts
Servings
12 triangles

Difficulty:
Easy
Ingredients
- 100g prawns (cooked and peeled)
- 100g sesame seeds
- 3 slices of white bread
- 1/2 thumb ginger
- 1 small garlic clove
- 1 egg white
- 1 spring onion
- 1 tsp light soy sauce
- salt and pepper
- vegetable oil for frying
This is as tasty yet much healthier than the takeaway version, which is usually deep fried whole. As you are cooking it at home, you have more control over how much (or how little) oil to use when frying.
If you have any leftovers (highly unlikely we think!) you can store these in the fridge for up to two days and then reheat in the oven at 200 degrees C (390 degrees F) for around 8 minutes. You can also freeze the leftovers- just defrost prior to cooking.
We served this as as a side dish as part of a Chinese feast, alongside some rice, Chinese barbecue pork belly (Char Siu) and some curried fish balls. Click on the links to read more!
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Firstly, peel and roughly chop the ginger and garlic, and chop the spring onions.
Step 2
Into a food processor, add the chopped ginger, garlic and spring onions. Then add the egg white, soy sauce, a pinch of salt and pepper and the prawns. Blitz well- until everything is well incorporated and becomes a paste.
Step 3
Spread a third of the paste on each slice of bread. Cut each slice diagonally, into four triangles. Next, onto each triangle, sprinkle the sesame seeds. These are now ready to fry.
Step 4
Add the vegetable oil into a saucepan, until the oil is a centimetre or so deep- you won’t be deep frying the triangles but only frying each side at a time.
Step 5
Once the oil is heated (you’ll know it’s ready when you add a bit of bread and it sizzles), you can start frying the triangles- do two or three at a time, depending on how big your saucepan is.
Step 6
Place each triangle into the saucepan, paste side down, and fry for around a minute, until the sesame seeds are golden. Then, flip them over and fry the other side for around a minute.
Step 7
Once both sides are golden, remove from the pan and place on a paper towel to remove the excess oil. Repeat with the remaining triangles. You might need to add more oil.
Step 8
Serve the sesame prawn toasts warm. Enjoy!
