Ingredients
- 250g beef steak or beef strips for stir-frying
- 3tbsp vegetable oil
- 3tbsp light soy sauce
- 3 spring onions
- 2 bell peppers
- 2tsp Shaoxing wine
- 2tsp ground cumin
- 1tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 garlic clove
- 1tsp sesame oil
- 1tsp chilli flakes
- 1/2 thumb ginger
- salt and pepper to taste
The prep time above includes some marinating time- but if you are short on time, just marinate the beef for 5 minutes.
We just served this with some rice but similarly you can serve with noodles or as part of a tasting menu.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the ingredients: cut the peppers into strips, thinly slice the spring onions, then peel and finely chop the garlic and ginger. If using a piece of steak, cut into strips. Set aside.
Step 2
Next, prepare the marinade: in a mixing bowl, mix together the light and dark soy sauce and Shaoxing wine. Add the beef strips to the marinade and mix well. Let marinade for 10 minutes.
Step 3
Add half of the vegetable oil to a seasoned wok on high heat, then add the beef strips and cook for a few minutes- just to sear the outside. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
Step 4
Next, add the remaining vegetable oil to the wok, and add the chopped garlic and ginger. After a minute of stir frying on high heat, add the peppers, and cook for a further 5 minutes.
Step 5
Add the beef strips back to wok, add the cumin and chilli flakes and stir fry for a few minutes.
Step 6
Then, finally add the sesame oil, chopped spring onions, mix well and take off the heat. The dish is then ready to serve. Enjoy!
